Lenten Offering Supports Two Causes

Our church traditionally has received a Lenten offering during this period of self-denial, as we give up something tangible in remembrance that God gave his Son for us.

This year’s Lenten offering will support The Union Mission of Roanoke Rapids and the Central Conference Pension Initiative (CCPI).  The CCPI is an effort to provide pensions to retired United Methodist pastors and surviving spouses in various countries in Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia.

You may bring your Lenten offering any Sunday during Lent or on Easter, April 20.

Son of God Movie Recommended

Son of God, a major motion picture about the life of Jesus, opens in theaters on Friday, February 28.  This includes UEC Theatres 14, 821 Benvenue Road, in Rocky Mount.  The film is presented with the scope and scale of an action epic.  It spans from Jesus’ humble birth through his teachings, crucifixion and ultimate resurrection.

It is produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, the award-winning producers of the record-breaking miniseries, The Bible.  “This movie is brilliantly produced with stunning cinematography, a Hans Zimmer score and academy-worthy acting.  Not since The Passion of the Christ ten years ago have I been this excited about a movie,” wrote the Rev. Rick Warren, author of A Purpose Driven Life.
